Building a Business While Raising a Family: A Mother's Honest Take
People ask me how I do it — run a real estate business, show up for my family, keep all the plates spinning. The honest answer? Some days I don't. Some days a plate wobbles. But I've stopped apologizing for the juggle, and I want to talk about why.
Can a mother really build a successful business?
Yes — but let's retire the myth of "balance." Balance suggests a perfect scale, everything level, nothing spilling. Real life for a working mother is rhythm: seasons where business surges and family gets creative, seasons where family needs you front and center and business runs on systems. The goal isn't perfect equilibrium every day. It's being fully where you are.
What I know for sure: my children have watched me build something from nothing. They've seen me negotiate hard at the table and pray harder at home. They've learned that a woman can be tender and tough — that those aren't opposites. That's an education no classroom gives.
How do you handle mom guilt as an entrepreneur?
By naming it for what it is: love with nowhere to go. The guilt shows up because you care — about the showing and the school pickup. I've learned to turn it into a question instead of a verdict: what does my family actually need from me right now? Sometimes the answer is "be at the game." Sometimes it's "finish the deal so we can take the trip." Both are love. Both count.
And here's something nobody says enough: a fulfilled mother is a gift to her family. My work makes me sharper, more patient, more me — and my family gets that version.
What does faith have to do with business?
For me, everything. I'm a Christian, and my faith is the quiet engine behind how I treat people: honestly, even when honesty costs me; generously, even in a competitive industry; with the belief that every client crossing my path is there for a reason. I don't preach at the closing table — but the values are in every conversation, every negotiation, every hard truth I tell a seller about their price.
What would you tell a woman starting a business with young kids?
Start before you feel ready — readiness is a myth, and the "perfect time" never arrives. Build systems early so the business can breathe without you hovering. Protect your non-negotiables (mine is family dinner whenever humanly possible). Find your people — the ones who'll watch the kids during a listing appointment and cheer when you close.
And define success yourself. Mine isn't just sold signs — though I'm proud of every one. It's a business with integrity, a family that knows they're first, and a life that feels like mine.
Why does this matter to my clients?
Because the woman who juggles all of this is the same woman who'll juggle your move: the timing, the stress, the hundred moving pieces, the emotions nobody warned you about. I don't just understand transactions. I understand life happening during transactions — because I'm living it too.
Get who gets you. All of you.
